Progress of the new shop

Anyone who has peeped through the glass doors at 118-120 Foster Street will have noticed much activity inside each Saturday and on many week days too! Now, instead of a large open room, there are walls built to separate the shop from the library and the course room. Walls enclose a kitchen area and space for the children who attend Bible Explorers. Plasterboard has been hung with cornices and a lot of painting. Wiring has been redone throughout the shop as well as air-conditioning. However there is still a lot to be done - a kitchen installed, new toilets, more painting, floor coverings and so on. This will all take time to do. At present it is estimated that the shop will probably be opened toward the end of September. God willing, the next newsletter will be able to give an opening date.

Please view the PDF form of this newsletter to see some progress photographs.

Freedom to worship

Recent events in Iran following the disputed election there highlight the freedom we have in Australia to live life as we choose. God has given us the freedom to choose many things in our life and blesses us with many good things in this lovely land. In Australia we have a freedom of religion that allows us to learn of God and to learn from the Bible what he wants of us as a loving father.

Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows
James 1:17

Did you know?

When the great king Solomon built the magnificent temple in Jerusalem around 950BC the building site must have been unusually quiet. (Our building work isn't like that!) In 1 Kings 6:7 we read:

When the house was built, it was with stone prepared at the quarry; so that neither hammer nor axe nor any tool of iron was heard in the temple, while it was being built.

This great temple took over seven years to build and the work of over 180,000 men. Israelites were forced to help, besides the workers from Tyre who helped with cutting and sending choice wood for the work. The resulting building was priceless - so much gold and so many precious stones were used. The sad part of the story is that even with a magnificent temple like this the people of Israel sinned so much that God sent the Babylonians to destroy that temple and take away all that was precious. So if you want to visit Solomon's great temple today, you can't!
