Finding Bibles in languages other than English

Beth Symes is the person who usually orders LOTE Bibles. Here is an interview with Beth about her experiences.
How many different languages does the Dandenong Bible Education Centre stock Bibles in at present?
We have Bibles, study aids and DVDs in 65 different languages. We stock Bibles (or parts of them) in 36 different languages.

Where do you source LOTE Bibles?
All over the world.  Many we can get from our suppliers here in Australia but others come direct from their country of origin.

How long does it usually take to order in a Bible in a language other than English?
Most languages we can source within a week or two if we do not already have them in stock.  Some of the less widely spoken languages can take longer.

About how much do Bibles in a language other than English cost?
We have secondhand Bibles usually for less than $10 and new Bibles usually cost approximately $20 depending on the binding and other features.

In how many different languages are Bibles currently in print?
The Bible continues to be the most translated book in the world. The following numbers are approximations. As of 2005, at least one book of the Bible has been translated into 2,400 languages. The United Bible Societies are presently assisting in over 600 Bible translation projects. The Bible is available in whole or in part to some 98 percent of the world's population in a language in which they are fluent.

What language was the most difficult to find a Bible for sale in?
Gola!  After many emails back and forwards across the globe and waiting months and months we were able to get some portions of the Bible in Gola.  They had to be hand carried out of Liberia. What joy when they finally arrived!

How often do you order LOTE Bibles?
Usually as required, when there is a special request. Or perhaps every month or two to replace stock we run out of.

What do you find most satisfying about sourcing LOTE Bibles?
Giving someone the opportunity to read God’s words in their own language, the one they understand the best.

Your questions discussed – and, hopefully, answered

We are referring to questions about the Bible – and the parts which puzzle you.

We have arranged to have a special 3 week Course, God willing, at the Bible Centre.

Mondays, June 15, 22 & 29th, starting at 7.45 pm.

Recent courses have seen participants raise a number of other matters not directly related to the course. These three sessions will be an opportunity to have a good look at what the Bible has to say about these questions.

For example, the Gospel of John says, referring to Jesus, that he was “the word made flesh” (John 1:14) – so what was Jesus before he was flesh? Another question – if Jesus was really God, does that mean he did not really die?  We will also look further into some of the issues discussed in our recent Prophecy series about the real nature of “the end of the world.”

Whether you have been a participant or not in previous classes, you are warmly invited to attend these three classes. Please bring your own questions, and we will search the scriptures to see what answers God has put on record “for our learning”.

Rain!

With our dams so empty and so little rain at times, many people are increasingly conscious about water. Many have learnt to use less water in their daily activities, and some are installing rainwater tanks to catch any rain that does fall. Yet in New South Wales and Queensland there have been devastating floods recently. Just as we think about rain, so too the Bible speaks of rain quite often. Can you fill in the blanks in the following quiz?

  1. The rain fell and the ______________ came.
  2. As snow in summer or rain in harvest, so honour is not fitting for a ______________.
  3. I will send rain upon the earth for ______________ days and ______________ nights.
  4. For as the rain and the ______________ come down from heaven and do not return to it without watering the earth...
  5. He sends rain on the ______________ and on the ______________.
  6. Elijah prayed and for ______________ years and six months it did not rain on the earth.
  7. He will ______________ to us like the winter rains.
  8. God’s ______________ shall drop as the rain.
  9. These men have power to shut up the sky so that it will not rain in the days of their ______________
  10. Lo , the ______________ is past, the rain is over and gone.
